Researchers found at the beginning of the 1900's, a beneficial response while experimenting with yogurt and sour milk preparations in treating intestinal disorders. Additional investigation at this time, isolated certain species of micro-organisms from these preparations which had the capability of excreting large amounts of Lactic Acid. In 1933 Researchers at Cornell University discovered that all warm blooded animals had these same Lactic Acid producing micro-organisms in their small intestines. It then required an additional 20-25 years to discover the exact cause/effect benefit relationship between the Lactic Acid producing micro-organism contained in yogurt sour milk preparations and those which made up a major portion of a normal intestinal micro-flora in all warm blooded animals.
